It’s summertime time and for many that can mean midriff tops, bikinis and cute little sundresses that show off the figure. We’ve all heard about the power of crunching and giving up the treats that put smiles on our faces, but trying to maintain a flat belly doesn’t have to be all bad. According to Redbook Magazine, the following five foods aid in flattening the belly.
- Celery – There’s more to celery than just it’s crunch. This plant or veggie contains a special fiber that feeds good bacteria. Add to that the fact that celery is 95% water which is vital for fluid reduction and one can see why celery is important.
- Lemons/Limes – They are both bitter and beautiful. Those of us who enjoy lemonade, mojitos, guacamole and more food and beverages than one can name have different reasons for loving these two pearls of the citrus family. The acid in lemons and limes help stimulate the production of digestive enzymes and when added to a cup of warm water, they both work as a digestive aid and fat burner.
- Cantaloupe – Low on electrolytes, much on some cantaloupe. Just one cup of cantaloupe contains nearly a quarter of the daily needed potassium, which is key in flushing excess sodium and balancing cell fluid levels.
- Fermented Pickles – Anyone can experience bloating but it seems it happens to us girls quite often. Who knew that fermented pickles were the answer? Check the refrigerated section of your local market for low-sodium pickles. This type of pickle is high in lactobacillus, a type of bacteria that promotes healthy digestion. Brining is not the same as fermenting. Brining kills bacteria, fermenting encourages it so make sure you grab the right jar.
Enjoy and be healthy.
